INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE SHIPPING AND LABELING OF CYLINDERS AND CASES
INCLUDED ARE SOME GUIDELINES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE SHIPPING AND LABELING OF THE CYLINDERS AND CASES

PACKING INSTRUCTIONS FOR CLASS 2 GASES
These instructions are the packing guidelines from the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations Packing Instruction 200:
a) Gases, other than refrigerated liquefied gases, must be contained in appropriate cylinders or other pressure vessels manufactured specifically for the purpose of containing and transporting the particular gas; pressures must not exceed the maximum working or service pressures permitted for such cylinders and pressure vessels (which is 1200 PSI).Cylinders and pressure vessels, fitted with valves, must have valve protection caps installed or be fitted with valve protection headbands or headrings to prevent the valve from being damaged or activated during transport. If it is not practicable to protect valves or fittings of cylinders must be securely packed in strong packaging that will adequately protect the valves and fittings.Manifolding of cylinders is not permitted.
b) Cylinders and other pressure vessels for gases, their contents and filling densities must conform to the requirements of the State in which cylinders or pressure vessels are filled for transport.Cylinders and other pressure vessels for which prescribed periodic tests have become due must not be charged and shipped until such retests have been made
c) Cylinders and pressure vessels conforming to 200(a) and 200(b) with capacities of one liter or less must be packed in strong outer packaging and secured or cushion so as to prevent significant movement within the outer packaging during normal conditions of transport.

LABELING INSTRUCTIONS FOR SAMPLE CYLINDERS
Please use the tags provided in each case for the labeling of each sample cylinder. Label each tag and use the wire ties to tie it to the corresponding cylinder. Please fill out all the pertinent information on the tag.

SAMPLE CYLINDERS
All sample cylinders are rated for 1200psi. Please do not over-pressure the cylinders to avoid rupture, damage and/or harm to individuals and property. When taking gas samples use the Teflon-lined aluminum cylinders and for liquid samples use the water-filled stainless steel cylinders. For any Sulfur analysis please use the Sulfinert or the Teflon-lined stainless steel cylinders (either Helium purged or water filled).
SAMPLE CASES & LABELING
Use the black Pelican cases as these cases have been approved for the shipping of gas/liquid filled cylinders. There is no need to enclose these cases in a box or brown paper wrapping as all the appropriate labels may be placed on the outside of the Pelican case. Put all the appropriate labels on both sides of the case. The to and from sticker can be placed on the front, however, the classification placards, aircraft placards and UN classification numbers must be on both sides of the case. Use a plastic tie through the eye loops to ensure the case from opening during transport. Make sure that the cylinders are secure inside the case from any kind of movement. The foam inside the cases may be cut to fit the cylinders to ensure a secure fit during transport.
Labels can help you identify a hazardous materials shipment and the hazard present. When HAZARDOUS MATERIAL labels are required on packages, the shipper is required to affix the labels before offering the shipment. The Hazardous Material Shipping Papers included provides a ready reference to the labels that you may require. If the material that you are shipping is not listed then you will need to use a Hazardous Material Compliance Book to help you use the correct shipping labels. The HazMat list will also assist you in filling out the shipping papers for either FedEx or UPS. There have been some examples included to assist with the labeling of the cases.
